Nigeria’s Super Eagles B, silver medalists in 2018 and bronze medalists in 2014, will compete in Group B of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Zanzibar, Tanzania, from August 2 to August 30, 2025. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Thursday, June 19, 2025, that Nigeria will face defending champions Senegal, Congo, and Sudan in Group B, with matches hosted in Zanzibar, a Tanzanian archipelago with a population of under 2 million. The tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda as a rehearsal for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations hosting duties, will see the opening match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, third and fourth place matches at Mandela Stadium in Kampala, and the final at Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi.
Congo’s inclusion in Group B follows Equatorial Guinea’s disqualification by the CAF Appeals Committee, restoring Congo to the group. Nigeria qualified for the finals with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana in December 2024. Other groups include Group A (Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia) in Nairobi, Group B (Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic) in Dar es Salaam, and Group C (Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, Algeria) in Kampala. The tournament, featuring domestic league players, tests Nigeria’s squad depth against strong opponents like Senegal, who won the 2022 CHAN title (CAF). Posts on X, such as @CAF_Online and @Soccernet_ng, highlight Nigeria’s strong qualifying performance and fan optimism for a title challenge, though @AfricaFactsZone notes Senegal’s dominance as a hurdle.
