On Friday, July 25, 2025, the Yoruba Muslim Scholars Association was formally inaugurated at a Religious Intellectual Seminar held at the Islamic Center, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, bringing together Islamic organizations, clerics, and scholars from the six South-West states, Edo, and Delta. Established in August 2022 and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, the association, led by President Sheikh Khidr Mustapha, aims to consolidate past Islamic scholarship, promote human development, and propagate a moderate Islamic methodology based on the Qur’an and Prophet’s teachings. Sheikh Mustapha emphasized an open-door policy for scholars, pledging to conduct research, issue fatwas, and address disputes among propagators to curb litigation and social media conflicts, while appealing to Muslim philanthropists and monarchs for support.
Dr. Ibrahim Otuyo, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and retired Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, outlined the association’s structured framework to achieve its vision, urging inquiries via 08149465848 and 08143374562. Dr. Ridwanullai Jamiu, Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, advocated modernizing Arabic and Islamic Studies curricula with skills like Islamic finance and prophetic medicine to boost youth employability. The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba AbdurRasheed Adewale Akanbi, encouraged Muslim political participation to secure welfare and representation. Mufti Sheikh Daud Imran-Malasan and other dignitaries, including the Olowu of Owu Ile, Oba Muhammadu-Qosim Raji, and representatives of Ibadanland’s Chief Imam, Sheikh Abubakr Agbotomokekere, hailed the initiative, calling for cooperation to advance Islamic unity and community welfare across Yorubaland.
