On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, seven farmers abducted from their farmland in Itaogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, were released after five days in captivity, as confirmed by a relative of one victim to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, August 1, 2025. The kidnappers initially demanded ₦100 million, later reduced to ₦20 million, but the families raised only ₦5 million plus food items, securing the farmers’ release in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Wednesday night. The victims are now receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital. Efforts to reach Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, were unsuccessful, and DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated he was unaware of the release. The Amotekun Corps and police had launched search operations following the kidnapping, as reported by Daily Post and Punch on July 29–August 1, 2025.
