UK: Nigerian Man Sentenced to Five Years for Rape, Faces Deportation

On Monday, August 11, 2025, Gloucestershire Police reported that a Nigerian man, identified as Ogundipe, was sentenced to five years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting a woman in 2022, with deportation ordered upon completion of his sentence, as per The Sun and BBC News. The incident occurred after Ogundipe met the victim at her workplace, invited her for drinks, and made inappropriate sexual remarks. He drove her to his home under the pretense of retrieving an item, where he raped and assaulted her after she used the bathroom. Despite her protests, he continued unwanted touching while driving to Cheltenham, where police on routine patrol stopped his car, allowing her to escape.

Initially hesitant, the victim disclosed the assault after an officer noted her distress, leading to Ogundipe’s arrest. In court, he claimed consensual contact initiated by the victim, a defense rejected by the jury at Gloucester Crown Court. Judge Lowe, acknowledging Ogundipe’s positive character references, emphasized the crime’s severity, justifying the sentence. The survivor’s court statement detailed the profound impact, including leaving her job, losing trust in others, and ongoing trauma, but she urged other victims to report, stating, “You will be believed and supported.” Detective Constable Jon Furse praised her courage, reinforcing Gloucestershire Police’s commitment to prosecuting sexual offenders. X posts from @Glos_Police (August 11, 2025) highlighted the case, while @UKCrimeWatch noted public support for the victim’s bravery, urging stronger community action against sexual violence.
