Governor Sule Distributes 100 Electric Vehicles, Announces N1.7 Billion Gratuity Payment in Nasarawa

On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule distributed 50 electric cars and 50 electric tricycles to youth groups, including Rindre, Alago, Mada, and Eggon cultural organizations, as well as religious youth bodies, and vulnerable residents to foster economic empowerment and job creation, as reported by Vanguard and The Sun. Speaking at the ceremony in Lafia, Sule emphasized the vehicles’ role in uplifting livelihoods, urging beneficiaries not to sell them, and noted that a charging station at the state secretariat is operational, with additional stations planned for Akwanga and Keffi (Fmino.gov.ng). The initiative, part of his administration’s empowerment programs, aims to support 100 indigent youths and promote environmental sustainability (Abovewhispers.com).

Sule also announced plans to clear ₦1.7 billion in 2012 gratuity payments for retirees, disburse delayed 2024 and current 2025 scholarship payments for indigent students, and subsidize 50% of fertilizer costs for farmers, aligning with President Tinubu’s “wet the ground” policy to ease economic hardship (Gazettengr.com). Additionally, he committed to addressing four-year local government pension arrears post-audit, with 2,500 retirees affected (Nasarawaeye.com). X posts from @NasarawaGov (August 21, 2025) highlighted the initiatives, while @Naija_Activist praised the effort but urged transparency, citing 43% public distrust in government programs (Afrobarometer, 2024). The moves aim to address Nasarawa’s 36.8% unemployment rate and support its 2.1 million population (NBS, 2024).
