The Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has announced his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a decision he says was made with the full knowledge and support of Peter Obi. In a recent interview, Rhodes-Vivour stated that Obi’s representative was present at his declaration and that the two remain in constant communication, aligned on a strategy to form a unified opposition. This shift is part of a broader effort to create a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling party’s dominance in the 2027 elections.
Rhodes-Vivour, who has launched a movement called “Our Lagos,” emphasized his belief that Lagos State should not be controlled by a single individual. He criticized the current administration for what he described as a lack of good governance, citing poor road infrastructure in areas like Alimosho and the alleged use of intimidation tactics against the opposition. He stated that the struggle is not just about him, but about the people of Lagos and their collective right to a fair and responsible government. This move signals a consolidation of opposition forces as the country prepares for the next round of general elections.
