ADC Urges Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency in Katsina, Zamfara Over Deadly Attacks

On Sunday, August 24, 2025, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara states following a wave of violent attacks that claimed over 140 lives in the past two months, as stated in a release by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, per Vanguard and Daily Post. The ADC condemned the recent massacre in Malumfashi, Katsina, where 30 worshippers were shot dead in a mosque and 20 villagers burned alive, and the killing of 47 people in Zamfara, including 38 executed despite ransom payments, as evidence of Nigeria’s “collapsed security architecture” (Independent.ng). The party criticized Tinubu for prioritizing international trips over domestic crises, noting his absence during these tragedies (Punch).

The ADC also slammed PDP governors for holding a political meeting in Zamfara days after the killings, calling their actions “insensitive” and out of place (Peoples Daily). It urged a complete overhaul of Nigeria’s security framework, citing the Chief of Defence Staff’s call for citizens to learn self-defense as an admission of systemic failure (Premium Times). The party accused both the APC and PDP of prioritizing power over public welfare, with 8,000 deaths and 6,000 abductions recorded in the North since 2020 (ACLED, 2025). X posts from @ADC_Nigeria (August 24, 2025) amplified the call, while @Naija_Activist echoed demands for action, citing 43% public distrust in government (Afrobarometer, 2024). The ADC’s statement reflects growing frustration with insecurity as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections.
