ADC’s David Mark Vows to End Candidate Imposition, Boost Internal Democracy

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Senator David Mark, Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declared at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja that the party would not tolerate candidate imposition, anti-party activities, or indiscipline under his leadership. Mark, a former Senate President, pledged to uphold integrity, transparency, and democratic principles, promising to build a technically competent bureaucracy and ensure structured financing to empower all members. He announced plans to reserve 35% of leadership roles for women and include youths under 40, emphasizing meaningful inclusion over tokenism. Mark also revealed that a 50-member policy committee will soon review the party’s manifesto and constitution to focus on health, education, agriculture, technology, security, economy, and infrastructure, aligning with Nigeria’s aspirations.

Commending outgoing Chairman Chief Ralph Nwosu for transforming the ADC into a major force, Mark noted the party’s membership surged from 600 to nearly three million paying members within a week of his July 2, 2025, leadership unveiling, crashing the party’s website due to registration demand, per Nwosu’s remarks. Nwosu urged the judiciary and INEC to uphold democratic mandates, while ADC chieftain Mr. Godson Okoye expressed optimism about the party’s economic vision. Mark called on members to focus on grassroots mobilization, as echoed by X posts from @ADCNigeria on July 29, praising Mark’s commitment to inclusivity and dismissing rival claims, amid ongoing coalition tensions with figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.
