Amaechi Vows to Contest 2027 Presidency on ADC Platform, Slams Tinubu’s Leadership

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Rotimi Amaechi declared his unwavering commitment to contesting the 2027 presidential election under the ADC, stating “no retreat, no surrender” during an interview with BBC Hausa Service in Kano, as reported by Vanguard and The Sun. Speaking after meeting with a coalition of traders, the former Rivers State governor expressed confidence in winning the ADC’s presidential primary to challenge President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the people should decide the nation’s leader (Web:0, Web:2).

Amaechi criticized Tinubu’s administration, alleging widespread dissatisfaction across Nigeria, including in Rivers and the South, due to exclusionary appointments and economic hardship, with 38.9% of Nigerians living below the poverty line (NBS, 2024). He dismissed Tinubu’s framing of issues as a North-South divide, asserting that “no one is happy under Tinubu” (Web:0). On the ADC’s potential zoning of its presidential ticket, Amaechi said he would abide by the party’s decision but stressed his qualifications, citing his governance experience and unifying appeal, evidenced by a massive, unpaid turnout during a recent ADC event in Rivers (Web:0, Web:4). X posts from @ADC_Nigeria (August 28, 2025) echoed Amaechi’s candidacy, while @Naija_Activist noted 65% public frustration with Tinubu’s leadership (NOI Polls, 2025), amplifying calls for credible 2027 polls (Post:2). Amaechi’s declaration intensifies the ADC’s challenge against the APC and PDP (Web:3).
