On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a Federal High Court in Lagos discharged and acquitted Mr. Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State, of all charges in a prolonged money laundering and fraud case initiated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, ruling that the EFCC failed to present sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case requiring further defense. The allegations stemmed from Fayose’s tenure as governor, but after years of legal proceedings, the court determined that the prosecution’s evidence was inadequate to sustain the charges, effectively clearing Fayose of the accusations.
