Felix Agu, a 25-year-old full-back for Werder Bremen, has switched his international allegiance to Nigeria, driven by a desire to connect with his Nigerian heritage through his father’s lineage. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in London on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Agu expressed his excitement, describing the opportunity to represent Nigeria as a “great feeling.” Recently cleared by FIFA to play for the Super Eagles after confirmation from the German Football Association that he only featured in two friendly matches for Germany’s U21 team in 2019, Agu is now focused on elevating the Nigerian national team and winning trophies.
Agu, who admires Nigerian football legend Jay Jay Okocha, is set to debut in the Unity Cup against rivals Ghana, viewing the match as more than a friendly due to the intense rivalry. He has integrated well, enjoying a warm welcome and two training sessions with the team. Beyond football, Agu embraces Nigerian culture, citing his love for artists like Burna Boy, Omah Lay, and Davido, and dishes like jollof rice and plantain. As noted in the sports card above, Agu’s 2024/25 Bundesliga season with Werder Bremen included 3 goals, 5 clean sheets, and 2 blocked shots in 22 appearances, showcasing his speed and versatility, which are expected to bolster Nigeria’s defense
