Gombe Governor Warns 2025 Hajj Pilgrims Against Drug Trafficking and Unruly Behavior

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State warned intending 2025 Hajj pilgrims from the state against actions that could tarnish Nigeria’s image during a farewell ceremony on Sunday in Gombe. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, the governor urged pilgrims to avoid drug peddling, emphasizing that Saudi Arabia imposes a death penalty for such offenses. He cautioned them against being unwittingly used in illicit trade and stressed the importance of adhering to Saudi Arabia’s strict laws to protect the reputation of Gombe and Nigeria. Yahaya called for patriotism, obedience to authorities, and compliance with procedures, warning that unruly behavior would face sanctions.

The governor also directed officials of the Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to perform their duties diligently and prioritize the welfare of the pilgrims. The board’s Executive Secretary, Saadu Hassan, announced that 957 pilgrims will participate in the 2025 Hajj, with 512 departing on Monday and 445 on Tuesday. The Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Rashid II, who chairs the pilgrims’ board, praised Yahaya for his support, which ensured a smooth Hajj process for the state’s pilgrims.
