The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched a detailed investigation into complaints surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, released on Friday, May 2, 2025. In a press release issued on Monday, May 5, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, acknowledged a “significant volume of unusual complaints” primarily from a few states, prompting the board to expedite its annual system review to identify and address potential technical issues.
JAMB has enlisted experts, including members of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, Chief External Examiners (heads of tertiary institutions), the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, measurement specialists, and vice chancellors, to scrutinize the complaints. The review covers the registration, examination, and result release phases. Benjamin emphasized that JAMB ensures all candidates can sit for the exam, rescheduling tests for those affected by technical glitches. “If glitches are confirmed, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly,” he stated.
The board expressed concern over the complaints’ concentration in specific states and reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, promising swift action to rectify any identified issues. This response follows public outcry on platforms like X, where candidates reported discrepancies in scores and technical difficulties during the April 19–29, 2025, examination period, which saw over 1.9 million participants. JAMB’s proactive engagement of external experts aims to uphold the integrity of the UTME process.
