On Friday, August 1, 2025, the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), through its spokesperson Mr. Seye Oladejo, dismissed a statement by former Presidential Adviser Mr. Babafemi Ojudu titled “Lagos is Playing with Fire and Tinubu Must Put It Out,” calling it sensationalist and misleading. In a response titled “RE: Lagos is Playing with Fire and Tinubu Must Put It Out – Ojudu’s Misplaced Alarmism,” Oladejo rejected Ojudu’s allegations of ethnic tension and political vindictiveness, asserting that Lagos, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and APC leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, remains a model of multi-ethnic harmony and inclusive governance. The statement, reported by Vanguard, emphasized Lagos’s economic growth, with a 2025 state budget of ₦2.7 trillion prioritizing infrastructure like the Fourth Mainland Bridge and Lekki-Epe Link Bridge, per Lagos State Government reports.
Oladejo accused Ojudu of stoking controversy for personal relevance, noting that Lagos’s 4.1% GDP growth in Q1 2025 (NBS data) and projects like the 37km Red Line rail reflect progress, not crisis. He urged Nigerians to support the state’s development and ignore divisive rhetoric. X posts from @LagosAPC and @TheNationNews on August 1, 2025, echoed the rebuttal, with users praising Sanwo-Olu’s delivery of 1,200 housing units in 2024 and dismissing Ojudu’s claims as political grandstanding. The APC stressed that Tinubu, as a symbol of national unity, is not tasked with extinguishing “imaginary infernos” created by opportunists, urging constructive dialogue over alarmism.
