Lagos Police Arrest NURTW Boss Shamsideen Oladiti Over Assault, Murder Allegations

On Friday, September 19, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command arrested Shamsideen Oladiti, a 55-year-old National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) boss on Lagos Island, known as “Shameleon,” on charges of assault and murder, as confirmed by the command (Web:0, Web:1, Web:3). Oladiti is detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti-Yaba for ongoing investigations into two separate incidents (Web:0). On September 17, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., Oladiti allegedly assaulted a dispatch rider in Lagos Island using a helmet and fists, leaving the victim critically injured and on oxygen at a hospital (Web:0, Web:2). Separately, on August 28, 2025, Oladiti struck another man with a metallic ring, causing fatal injuries; the victim died on September 17, 2025, and his remains are in the mortuary for autopsy (Web:0, Web:3).

The victim’s death sparked protests at Oladiti’s office in Sandgrouse Market, where sympathizers set two of his motorcycles ablaze, escalating tensions (Web:0, Web:2). Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh led mobile policemen and tactical squads to restore order, assuring prosecution of Oladiti upon investigation’s completion (Web:0, Web:1). Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi clarified the dispatch rider is alive, contrary to rumors, and emphasized the command’s commitment to justice (Web:0). X posts from @LagosPoliceNG (September 19, 2025) confirmed the arrest, while @Naija_Activist noted 75% public support for swift prosecution amid 1,200 assaults in Lagos in 2024 (Lagos State Police, 2025) (Post:3). The case highlights ongoing concerns over NURTW-related violence in Lagos (Web:4).
