On Sunday, July 6, 2025, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the Southwest leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), issued a statement urging Nigerian voters to reject political parties and candidates, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), that failed to fulfill their 2023 election promises in the 2027 general elections. Ajadi criticized the APC’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” for exacerbating economic hardship, citing 33.9% inflation (NBS April 2025) and a naira devaluation that saw the currency drop to ₦1,600/$1 in June 2025, weaker than the CFA franc used in Francophone West African countries. He highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies in 2023, which increased petrol prices from ₦185 to over ₦1,000 per liter without mitigating measures, pushing 67% of Nigerians below the poverty line (NBS 2024) and leaving workers’ wages insufficient for basic needs.
Ajadi called for voters to evaluate parties based on their performance over the past two years, stating, “The APC promised a better life, but many are reduced to begging and living in misery.” He urged the Tinubu administration to stabilize the economy and strengthen the naira, warning that failure to act risks further voter disillusionment, as evidenced by the 27% turnout in the 2023 elections (INEC).
