On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), led by Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, reported the neutralization of nine Boko Haram terrorists in Konduga, Bama, and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno State, as part of sustained offensive operations, including ambushes and fighting patrols supported by the Air Component. According to a press statement by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, OPHK also thwarted an attempt by terrorists to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on a major bridge along the Marte-Dikwa road, recovering two heavy IEDs and related equipment after a firefight. This follows the killing of notorious Boko Haram commander Ibn Khalid and 17 others in Bitta, Gwoza, on July 23, 2025, with recoveries of AK-47 rifles, PKT machine guns, and logistics items, as reported by PRNigeria.
Kovangiya emphasized OPHK’s commitment to denying insurgents freedom of action, aligning with directives from the military high command to disrupt terrorist supply chains and operations, as seen in Operation Desert Sanity IV. The statement urged the public to provide timely intelligence on suspicious Boko Haram or ISWAP activities to support security efforts. Recent successes, including the recovery of 60 heavily primed IEDs under the same Marte-Dikwa bridge on July 25, 2025, underscore the military’s intensified campaign, though a May 2025 attack on a Marte military base highlighted ongoing challenges, with five soldiers killed and equipment looted, per The Punch.
