The Oyo State Police Command stated on Thursday, May 22, 2025, that the absence of testimony from Odunayo Alade, the father of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, who was killed by a stray police bullet in the Gbagi-Alakia area of Egbeda Local Government Area, Ibadan, on Tuesday, is delaying the completion of its comprehensive investigation report. During a media briefing, Commissioner of Police Johnson Adenola, joined by Commissioner for Information and Strategy Dotun Oyelade and Oyo State Road Management Agency (OYRTMA) Chairman Major Adekoya Adesagba (retd), explained that an interim report has been prepared, but a final report awaits Alade’s testimony, as mandated by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for a thorough investigation. The involved officer, currently in custody, and a passenger from the vehicle have provided information to the investigative team, with appropriate actions to follow post-inquiry.
Adenola noted that the incident might have been avoided had Alade complied with traffic rules, citing his record as a serial traffic offender arrested weeks prior. He assured that the police are keeping the Inspector General updated. Commissioner Oyelade reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to justice under Governor Seyi Makinde, promising that the case would not be overlooked and pledging support for Kehinde’s family, including police training on gun handling and civil relations. OYRTMA Chairman Adesagba raised concerns about rising traffic violations and assaults on agency officers, reporting eight cases of injuries, including broken limbs, in 2025, prompting a request for police backup during operations to ensure personnel safety.
