President Tinubu to Host Super Falcons at Presidential Villa After WAFCON Triumph

On Monday, July 28, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to receive Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the senior women’s national football team, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following their 3-2 victory over Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday, July 26, at the Stade Olympique de Rabat. The dramatic comeback, sealed by goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folasade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini, marked Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has arranged an open-roof bus parade in Abuja to display the trophy, with the team arriving at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by noon. The State House reception, expected to include generous rewards, underscores Tinubu’s commitment to sports development, as evidenced by his approval of full allowance payments before the final. Nationwide celebrations, echoed by posts on X from @NGRPresident and @mickiebrownkie, highlight the team’s resilience, with Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, named tournament MVP, promising to present the trophy to Tinubu.
