Southwest PDP Appoints Interim Team to Lead Ekiti Chapter, Forms Fact-Finding Committee

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Southwest Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced the appointment of a three-member interim administrative team to manage the party’s affairs in Ekiti State, as stated by Zonal Secretary Barr. Olumuyiwa Obanewa following a zonal meeting, in accordance with Part VII, Section 26(2) of the PDP Constitution. The team, comprising Chief Sanya Atofarati (Chairman), Mrs. Lanre Fajuyi (Secretary), and Chief Adeola Ogunrinde (Member), is tasked with immediate assumption of duties to prepare for the National Interface Committee’s arrival, as reported by Vanguard. The zone also constituted a five-member Fact-Finding Committee, led by Obanewa and including Comrade Seyi Bamidele, Barr. Benson Amuwa, Mrs. Oluwakemi Bello, and Chief Tunji Adeyemo, to assess the party’s state in Ekiti and report to the National Working Committee (NWC).

The PDP commended the outgoing Ekiti Caretaker Committee, led by Chief Dare Adeleke, for repositioning the party, which secured 15% of the vote in the 2022 governorship election, per INEC data, laying a foundation for future electoral gains. The incoming Reconciliation Committee will engage stakeholders to resolve internal divisions, notably between factions loyal to former Governor Ayo Fayose and Senator Biodun Olujimi, which have weakened the party since its 2018 loss of power. The PDP emphasized its commitment to unity and internal democracy, aligning with the NWC’s July 24, 2025, resolutions for the 2027 elections. X posts from @PDPNigeria and @EkitiPDP on August 5, 2025, praised the appointments but noted concerns from some members about delays in congresses, urging swift reconciliation to counter the APC’s dominance in Ekiti.
