Former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello declared on Friday, May 23, 2025, that he has no intention of contesting against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, reaffirming his support for Tinubu’s re-election. In a statement issued by his media director, Michael Ohiare, Bello expressed shock at a video post of his 2022 rally being misrepresented as a fresh campaign against Tinubu. The statement clarified that Bello has no presidential ambition and is committed to supporting Tinubu, praising the president’s achievements despite global challenges and urging Nigerians to disregard the misleading post.
Ohiare described the video as a “senseless post” by mischief-makers, noting that the 2022 rally dates were clearly visible on banners, exposing the fabrication. He accused detractors of repeatedly attempting to tarnish Bello’s image and set him against Tinubu, calling the latest effort a desperate bid to create a crisis. Ohiare warned Nigerians to be cautious of such falsehoods spread by “witless persons” aiming to mislead the public for their paymasters’ interests, asserting that these efforts against Bello have consistently failed.
