National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Monday, May 12, 2025, dismissed speculations that he plans to defect to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting instead that former Jigawa State Governor and PDP chieftain Alhaji Sule Lamido will soon join the APC. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje responded to Lamido’s recent claim that the APC is on the verge of collapse and that defectors like Ganduje would return to the PDP.
Ganduje described Lamido’s assertions as “baseless and illogical,” emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the APC, which he called the largest political party in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. He argued that the APC, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, is gaining momentum with prominent figures defecting to it, while predicting the PDP’s extinction by the end of 2025 due to its internal crises. “We will soon receive Sule Lamido because the PDP is dead,” Ganduje declared, urging Lamido to address his party’s turmoil rather than spreading unfounded speculation.
The APC chairman reaffirmed his focus on deepening internal party democracy and promoting sustainable governance, positioning the APC for a “resounding victory” in the 2027 elections. He assured Nigerians of the party’s unity and dedication to its mandate, dismissing any notion of abandoning the ruling party for a “failing opposition.” The statement reflects ongoing political sparring, with posts on X highlighting the APC’s confidence in absorbing PDP members amid the opposition’s leadership struggles.
