Kano Judicial Service Commission Disciplines Court Registrar, Reinstates Magistrates

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced disciplinary actions against a court registrar and other judicial officers following its 82nd meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, as detailed in a statement by spokesperson Baba Jibo-Ibrahim. Court Registrar Salisu Sule was demoted by one grade level effective immediately for misconduct, including insults, intimidation, and abuse of office, as confirmed by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC). The JPCC found Sule had used the judiciary’s name to harass the public, following a prior warning letter issued on December 19, 2024.

The JSC also reinstated Chief Magistrates Mustapha Sa’ad-Datti and Rabi Abdulkadir, allowing them to resume judicial duties while urging them to uphold integrity and professionalism. Principal Registrar Ahmad Aliyu Danmaraya was ordered to proceed on compulsory retirement for forging an affidavit, affixing a fake High Court stamp and seal, and inscribing a false receipt number, despite not being a commissioner for oaths. Alkali Mustapha Kiru of the Sharia Court was recalled for one year after issuing a writ of possession that violated fair hearing principles and imprisoning a petitioner off-record for three weeks. Senior Magistrate Sakina Aminu received a warning for assigning a police prosecutor in her proceedings, against the Chief Judge’s directives, and was advised to maintain cordial relations with state counsel. The JSC reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct within the judiciary.
