On Monday, May 26, 2025, heavily armed kidnappers invaded Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja, between 12:00 AM and 1:30 AM, holding residents hostage for over an hour. According to terrified residents cited by Vanguard, the assailants overpowered the local vigilance team, with one resident witnessing a man and a woman being abducted. The woman was later found within the estate, released for unknown reasons, but the total number of abductees remains unconfirmed. Police arrived around 1:00 AM, engaging in a 30-minute gunfire exchange with the kidnappers.
Residents attributed the delayed security response to poor road conditions, which hinder patrol vehicle access, and pleaded for government intervention to fix the road and establish a police station for rapid response. The FCT Police Command, via spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that operatives from the Byazin Division, alongside estate security, are combing nearby bushes to rescue victims and apprehend the perpetrators. This marks the latest in a series of abductions in Chikakore, with prior incidents in 2023 and January 2025 highlighting ongoing security challenges in the area.
