On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, a two-storey building under construction collapsed at Otta-Ona Junction, near the Mobil Filling Station bus stop in Ikorodu, Lagos State, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and the rescue of nine others. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), led by Permanent Secretary Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the recovery of three deceased victims from the rubble, as stated in a release to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The nine rescued adult males were attended to by LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
The incident, reported at 2:02 p.m., prompted LASEMA to activate its Emergency Response Plan, with Tiger and Lion Response Teams arriving at 2:40 p.m. The teams, supported by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police, and Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), used heavy-duty equipment, including an excavator, for the rescue operation. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, and the area was cordoned off for safety. The three bodies were handed over to Igbogbo Police Station, and search efforts continue to ensure no further victims are trapped.
