PDP Board of Trustees Urges Reconciliation and Unity at 99th NEC Meeting to Revive Party

At the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, called for forgiveness, dialogue, and unity to resolve the PDP’s ongoing internal crisis. Wabara emphasized that no personal ambitions or grievances should supersede the party’s collective interests or the aspirations of Nigerians seeking PDP leadership in national governance. He acknowledged the party’s turbulent history, marked by self-inflicted challenges, but highlighted its enduring ideals, resilient structures, and the loyalty of millions who view the PDP as Nigeria’s most credible platform for transformation.

Wabara urged PDP leaders, elders, youths, and stakeholders to embrace reconciliation as a “moral imperative,” advocating for a genuine, elder-led reconciliation process to heal divisions and restore trust. He stressed the need for openness to new members and ideas, positioning the PDP as a champion of justice, equity, and good governance. Wabara called for strengthened internal democracy, improved communication, and people-focused policies to reconnect with grassroots supporters, urging the party to present a credible vision for 2027 rather than merely criticizing the All Progressives Congress (APC). He envisioned the meeting as a turning point for unity, hope, and service to reclaim the PDP’s role as Nigeria’s leading party.

Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed reaffirmed the governors’ commitment to their mandates despite APC intimidation, expressing optimism that defectors, such as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, would return, citing past instances of members rejoining the PDP. Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, representing the PDP National Caucus, pledged to collaborate with party organs to revitalize the PDP, dismissing notions of collapse due to defections. Moro argued that the party’s ideas and resilience would make it a formidable contender in 2027, despite temporary setbacks from high-profile exits. The NEC’s focus on reconciliation and strategic planning, including preparations for the August 2025 National Convention, signals a concerted effort to unify and reposition the PDP amid Nigeria’s challenging political landscape.
