A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, has been arrested in Jigawa State for allegedly killing his 52-year-old father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025, was confirmed by Jigawa Police Command Spokesperson SP Lawan Shiisu Adam. According to Shiisu, Salisu attacked his father, inflicting severe machete wounds to his shoulder, neck, and chest. Police from Sara Division responded swiftly, rushing the victim to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu, where he was pronounced dead. The body was released to relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene, and the blood-stained machete was recovered. Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a thorough probe. Preliminary findings suggest the attack may have stemmed from a disagreement over money, with neighbors reporting that Salisu had asked his father, a retired soldier, for funds, leading to an argument. The motive remains under investigation, and the suspect will face prosecution upon completion of the inquiry. The police urged the public to provide any relevant information to ensure justice.
In a separate incident in Kano State, police arrested Aliyu Umar for the murder of 30-year-old Shehu Muhammad in Danbare Quarters on May 5, 2025, at approximately 6:40 a.m. Kano Police Command Spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna reported that Umar and an accomplice, who remains at large, attacked Muhammad with a sharp cutlass, inflicting multiple injuries. Following a distress call, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori deployed officers to the scene, where Muhammad was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital but was confirmed dead. Umar was arrested, and the weapon was recovered. He is currently aiding the ongoing investigation and will be prosecuted. The Kano Police commended community members for their swift reporting and reaffirmed their commitment to public safety, urging continued vigilance.
