Governor Yusuf Aligns with Kwankwaso’s Vision, Rejects Corruption Allegations

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s alignment with the political movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, praising the former governor’s foresight and leadership. Speaking at a meeting with 484 councillors from the state’s 44 local government areas on May 3, 2025, Yusuf described Kwankwaso as a divinely gifted leader whose advice has proven invaluable. “Wherever he goes, we will follow him,” Yusuf declared, urging others to heed Kwankwaso’s counsel to avoid regret.

Addressing corruption allegations leveled by the sacked Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Yusuf dismissed the claims as baseless and a sign of mental instability. Bichi had alleged that Yusuf’s administration, less than two years old, was more corrupt than that of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, claiming Kwankwaso demanded ₦2 billion monthly from the governor. Yusuf refuted this, stating, “Any corrupt individual will not last in our government. It’s a corruption-free government.” He called Bichi a liar, noting the former official never made such claims while in office.

Yusuf warned that his administration would take decisive action against individuals and media platforms making “unguarded statements” against Kwankwaso or others, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated. He urged councillors to identify and report local issues requiring government intervention to ensure prompt action. The governor also outlined plans to deliver development and democratic dividends to constituents through 2027, reinforcing his commitment to grassroots progress. The meeting, attended by Kwankwaso and other New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leaders, underscored the party’s unified front ahead of future elections.
